Jose Cuellar’s coffee comes from Pitalito, the second most populated municipality in the department of Huila. Pitalito is considered the South Colombian Highway Star due to its strategic location, which allows communication between the departments of Cauca, Caquetá and Putumayo. It is also known as “Laboyos Valley”, since it is part of the Macizo Colombiano and the Cinturón Andino, declared by UNESCO in 1972, a Biosphere Reserve.
Pitalito is also considered the largest coffee producer in Colombia and on several occasions, it has been awarded the Coffee “Cup of Excellence” with its exotic variety of Pink Bourbon. This variety is very popular in Huila due to the more traditional farming and less large scale farms (Big difference with Antioquia where they use less tradition, more resistant varieties like Colombia and Castillo).
