Las Nubes: Colombian Specialty Coffee from Pereira, Caldas
Las Nubes is a family owned farm located in the mountains near Salento. Its name, which translates to “The Clouds,” reflects the farm’s high altitude environment, surrounded by pine plantations, cool temperatures, frequent rainfall, and fertile soils. These natural conditions create an ideal setting for cultivating exotic coffee varieties such as Wush Wush.
A key part of the farm’s success comes from the work of Hernando Tapasco, the specialty coffee expert behind many of the farm’s processing protocols. Born into a coffee producing family, Hernando is an agronomist, Q-Grader, former Q-Grader instructor, and processing educator for the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI), with more than 20 years of experience in specialty coffee.
Hernando specializes in developing fermentation and processing systems that help producers unlock more expressive and higher value cup profiles. At Las Nubes, he designed and standardized the protocols used for coffees like Wush Wush, focusing on controlled fermentations plus natural processing, precision drying, and consistency throughout production. His work allows the farm to move beyond traditional washed coffees and explore more complex and differentiated flavor profiles while maintaining structure and quality control.

A Farm Focused on Distinctive, High-Quality Lots
Rather than prioritizing volume, Las Nubes focuses on developing highly distinctive coffees through precision cultivation, careful variety selection, and well-managed pre- and post-harvest practices.
The farm’s work with varieties like Wush Wush reflects this approach. Each lot begins with selective harvesting, ensuring that only cherries at the right stage of maturity move forward into processing. From there, the coffee may undergo extended controlled fermentation and slow drying on African beds, depending on the desired profile and the characteristics of the variety.
For buyers, this farm-level discipline matters because it creates coffees with a clear identity, strong sensory appeal, and the quality control needed for high-value specialty lots. Las Nubes combines high-altitude terroir, exotic genetics, and advanced processing knowledge to produce coffees that go beyond traditional Colombian profiles.
This focus on controlled production allows the farm to create expressive lots with depth, sweetness, and complexity, while maintaining the cleanliness and structure expected from premium specialty coffee. It is this combination of environment, genetics, and processing expertise that positions Las Nubes as a strong source for buyers looking for distinctive Colombian coffees with exceptional cup potential.
